Someone recently introduced me to this term, and I think it’s a great way to think about how to manage overwhelm in our lives, particularly when working in caring fields such as animal welfare.
It is about taking “withdrawals” and adding “deposits” to your emotional “bank account”.
For example, I may have a really fun night out planned with some friends, which I love, or I may have some more challenging cases to support in my work and these will both take some withdrawals out of my emotional bank account – we need to remember that fun and work energy can still be “money spent”.
Then in order to keep my bank account healthy, I must then add some deposits to it, which may include some time alone, reading a book / watching some TV / doing some yoga.
